Student Employment Information

What is Federal Work-Study (FWS)? An award, if you qualify, will be listed on your financial aid award letter and may vary in amount from $700 to $2000 per year. You must work part-time at an on or off campus FWS position in order to earn your award amount. You are only paid for actual hours worked. Students with Federal Work-Study (FWS) in their financial aid package will be mailed an information packet in early August. This packet will include a letter giving job search information, a detailed list of FWS jobs available on-campus, community service work opportunities, an on-campus Employment Authorization Form, and a pay schedule.
After reviewing the information packet, simply select two or more departments where you wish to apply for a job. Remember to take your Employment Authorization Form, your class schedule, your Drivers License, and Social Security card with you when you apply for a position in a department.
Don't delay. The Departments with job opening will not contact you - you must take the initiative to secure a job. Begin the process by going to your selected departments to apply for a job immediately after arriving on campus. Remember, other students may be applying for the same job that you are.
Once I find a job, how am I paid?
Once you have been hired by a Department, you will be asked to sign a Student Work Contract and issued a timecard. You will use the timecard in the time clock to record hours worked. Students are paid by check once a month on the last business day of the month beginning in September. Students are paid for the exact hours worked for that pay period. Students may pick up their paychecks in the Business Office from 9:00 - 4:00 Monday through Friday.
The starting wage for a FWS job is the current minimum wage. An hourly rate increase may be available for students returning to work in the same department for a second or third year.
You may choose to apply all or some of your paycheck to your student billing account. Applying your paycheck to your student billing account will help reduce any expected monthly payments. Are there non-FWS jobs available?
