Women's Golf Takes Third At NAIA Regional ChampionshipsThird-year head coach Max Baker led the Malone College women's golf team to a third-place finish at the NAIA Regional Championships this past fall, completing a very strong f2005 fall campaign. The team opened its season with a third-place finish at the Urbana University Invitational. Malone carded a total of 407 as Tiffin University took the team title with a score of 350. Pacing the Pioneers was Megan Grubb (So., Lake H.S.) with a round of 90 and an eighth-place finish overall. The Pioneer women later played in the Ohio Dominican Invitational and placed fourth in the six-team field with a two-day total of 829. The next week, the women’s squad first competed in the Walsh Invitational finishing fourth among six teams. The Pioneers recorded a two-day total of 770 (390-380) for the fourth-place finish. Grubb again led the team as she posted a score of 168 (86-83), good enough for fourth-place. Later in the week, the Pioneers hosted the Malone Invitational at Zoar Golf Course and captured the title at this two-team event as they carded a 367 with Ursuline College posting a 441. In the event, Heather Hall (So., Bellefontaine H.S.) captured medalist honors as she finished with a career-low score of 85. Next up for the women was the Tiffin Invitational. The Pioneers placed ninth out of 12 teams in this strong field. The Pioneers posted a score of 381 as Heather Grovemiller (Jr., Perry H.S.) led Malone’s squad with a score of 91. Wrapping up the fall season was the AMC/NAIA Region IX Championships hosted by Ohio Dominican. After the one-day event, the Pioneers finished an impressive third overall out of nine teams. Leading the Pioneers was Grubb with a score of 84, which earned her First Team All-AMC honors. Coming off its solid fall season, the team looks forward to a promising spring 2006 season, which will kick off in early March. |
