Three Malone Athletes Earn NCCAA Student Athlete Of The Week Honors

Three Malone College student athletes earned NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Student Athlete of the Week honors for their outstanding performances during the week of September 10-16.  Billy Bob Orsagh, of the Pioneer football team, Nik Schweikert, of the men’s cross country team, and Darren Phipps, of the men’s golf team, each earned the national honor.

Orsagh, a junior quarterback from Eastland, Texas, had an outstanding day under center on Saturday (Sept. 15) as he led Malone to a convincing 55-21 win over Union (Ky.) College by completing over 78% of his passes (22 of 28) for 294 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Schweikert, a junior from Beavercreek, Ohio (Beavercreek H.S.), led Malone to a first place finish among a 12-team field at the Bowling Green State University Invitational on Saturday.  Competing against a field made up primarily of NCAA Division I and Division II schools (Ohio University, Marshall University, Toledo University), Schweikert placed second overall in the men’s 8K in a time of 24:52.96.

Phipps, a senior from Hartville, Ohio (Lake H.S.), led the Pioneers to a tournament title at the Malone Fall Classic last weekend (among a 12-team field) as he earned Individual Medalist Honors with a two-day score of 142 (72-70).
