Malone Men Capture Loyola (IL) Invit., Women Place FifthRyan Kienzle Takes Individual Title Among 230 Runners!
The Malone College men's cross country team, ranked #1 in the NAIA nationally, captured the Sean Earl Loyola (IL) University Lakefront Invitational last Saturday among a mostly NCAA Div. 21-team field while the Pioneer women's team, ranked #4, finished fifth among its 19-team mostly NCAA Div. I field.
The Malone men tallied 46 points to easily outdistance runner-up University of Iowa, which had 66 points, while Creighton (NE) University placed third at 128. The University of Western Ontario (CAN) finished fourth at 134 and Northern Kentucky University rounded out the top five with 160 points. Among the other NCAA Div. I teams that Malone beat were Purdue University, Marshall (WV) University, Case Western Reserve University and Western Illinois University.
For the men, Ryan Kienzle (Sr., GlenOak H.S.) captured the individual title by defeating over 230 other runners in a personal-best time of 24:34. Nik Schweikert (Jr., Beavercreek H.S.) finished close behind in third place overall in a personal-best time of 24:47. Others who scored for Malone were Evan Gaynor (So., Delta H.S.) in 13th (25:13), Aaron Melhorn (Fr., Fairless H.S.) in 15th (25:20) and Paul Robinson (So., Field H.S.) in 22nd (25:31).
Others who competed at Loyola for the men were James Zeuch (Fr., Galion H.S.) in 24th (25:31), Chris Sinick (So., Field H.S.) in 27th (25:36), Justin Baum (Sr., Kenston H.S.) in 33rd (25:48), Mike Coates (Sr., Sandy Valley H.S.) in 37th (25:56), Dan McCracken (So., Anna H.S.) in 102nd (26:57), Matt Nichols (Fr., Crestwood H.S.) in 132nd (27:20), Kyle Randolph (Fr., Galion H.S.) in 133rd (27:22), Keith Burns (Jr., Minerva H.S.) in 192nd (29:00) and Jon Easterling (Jr., Ashtabula H.S.) in 205th (29:37).
For the women, Rebekah Genter (Jr., Crestview H.S.) led the way with a 13th-place finish overall in a time of 18:29 while Katie Bagley (Jr., Van Wert H.S.) was next for the team in 23rd at 18:45. Others who scored for Malone were Alanna Seamon (Fr., St. Clairsville H.S.) in 39th (19:08), Kristin Downing (Fr., Lake H.S.) in 57th (19:28) and Kalie Hauenstein (So., Ashland H.S.) in 58th (19:28).
Others who competed for the Malone women were Emily Grad (Fr., Field H.S.) in 84th (19:52), Gabrielle Wuensch (Fr., New London H.S.) in 138th (20:44) and Danielle Wuensch (Fr., New London H.S.) in 167th (21:33).
This week, the Malone men's and women's teams will compete at the Ohio Intercollegiates in Delaware, Ohio on Friday with the women's race set for 2:00 p.m. and the men's event scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
