Malone Blanks Indiana Tech 2-0

The Malone College women’s soccer team topped Indiana Institute of Technology at home on Monday afternoon by the final score of 2-0.  The Pioneers grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a goal midway through the first half.  The squad was then able to maintain this one-goal advantage until the final minutes of the contest when they added a second score to cement the 2-0, non-conference victory.  Malone’s overall record improves to 8-7-0 (3-3-0 AMC North) with the shutout win while Indiana Tech falls to 1-14 (1-10 WHAC) on the season.

Forward Aleesha Denmeade (Jr., North Canton Hoover H.S.) got the Pioneers on the scoreboard in the 26th minute as she scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season off a pass from fellow forward Alysia Ramirez (Jr., San Jose, CA).  Defender Julie Wade (Sr., Clear Fork H.S.) then assisted Ramirez on the clinching score with just 62 seconds remaining on the clock.

Malone held a 9-3 advantage in total shots on goal during the match.  Indiana Tech goalkeeper Jennifer Sanow made seven saves while Pioneer keeper Merisa Salazar (Jr., San Jose, CA) stopped all three Warrior shot attempts that she faced to record third shutout of the season.

Malone will look to continue its winning ways on Wednesday (10/17) afternoon when the squad travels to Lake Erie College (5-11-0, 2-5-0 AMCC) in Painesville, Ohio for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match.
