Malone Captures Stark Memorial Tournament; Quinn Parker Earns Medalist Honors

The Malone College men's golf team captured the Stark Memorial Tournament at the Brookside Country Club on Monday among a six-team field as the Pioneer A team posted a winning score of 309, six shots ahead of runner-up Mt. Union College's A team, which finished at 315.  Malone's B squad came in third at 324, Walsh University A took fourth at 328, Mt. Union B was fifth at 331 and Walsh B rounded out the field in sixth at 337.

Three Malone athletes tied for the top score of the day with a round of 76 but it was Quinn Parker (Fr., Canton Central Catholic H.S.) who officially took medalist honors at the event by winning a playoff on the second hole.  Justin Lower (Fr., Northwest H.S.) and Ben Smith (So., Carrollton H.S.) also posted rounds of 76.  Other Malone A scores included Michael Strayer (So., Riverside H.S.) at 81 (12th) and Darren Phipps (Sr., Lake H.S.) at 85 (19th).

The Malone B team was paced by Ryan Gaughan (Fr. Lake H.S.) who finished tied for fourth overall with a round of 77.  Kyle Sine (Fr., Shawnee H.S.) was close behind in eighth at 79.  Other Malone B scores included Mark Zimmerman (So., GlenOak H.S.) at 83 (17th), Eric Shepard (Fr., Dixie H.S.) at 85 (19th) and Zach Keller (Fr., Wynford H.S.)

Malone's fall campaign has now concluded.  In addition to this event title, the Pioneers also won their own Malone Invitational this fall.  Malone earned second-place finishes at the Tiffin University Invitational, the Eastern Kentucky University Invitational and the Red Poling Invitational and finished seventh (among 18 teams) at the NCCAA National Championships (Panama City, FL).
