Service-learning EmphasisFaculty Learning Community: Service-learning Emphasis
Application Form - Faculty Learning Community - Due by January 30, 2008 A faculty learning community (FLC) is a small group of faculty members who meet together over a period of time to enhance their understanding and practice of some aspect of faculty work. Development through a faculty learning community is more targeted, relational, and longstanding than development through standard, one-time events, such as workshops and discussions.
During Spring 2008, we aim to form a FLC focused on service-learning pedagogy. Participants will meet twice a month from February through May to discuss readings from the service-learning literature; to work on course syllabi; and to establish relationships with community organizations. Participants will be required to submit revised syllabi and a brief report to Matt Phelps, Co-director of Faculty Development. After teaching the revised courses, the participants will host an event to share what they have learned with the broader Malone College faculty. Full participation will be rewarded with learning, relationships, and a $500.00 stipend. Be on the lookout for more details about this exciting opportunity.
