Five Pioneers Receive All-AMC North Division Recognition

In recognition of their strong performances during the 2007 season, five members of the Malone College volleyball team were recently voted to the All-AMC North Division Team.
 
Freshman outside hitter Jennifer Gahagan (Ravenna Southeast H.S.) collected All-AMC North First Team accolades while fellow freshman outside hitter Lori Ickes (Smithville H.S.) earned All-AMC North Second Team honors.  Receiving All-AMC North Honorable Mention recognition were sophomore middle hitters Erica Gann (Meadowbrook H.S.) and Kristen Schoolcraft (So., McKinley H.S.) and freshman right side hitter Emily Beiting (Fort Thomas, Kentucky).  In addition, Gahagan and Ickes were voted to the six-member All-AMC North Division Freshmen Team.
 
Gahagan put together an outstanding year as she averaged a team-high 2.97 kills per game and was second on the team with 3.29 digs per contest.  The 5’10” freshman also notched 55 service aces, 101 blocks and a .231 attack percentage.
 
Ickes also played very well in her first season as a Pioneer as she averaged 2.50 kills per game and led the squad in digs (3.52 per game) and service aces (79 total).
 
Gann posted a team-high .241 attack percentage while averaging 2.34 kills and 0.85 blocks. 
 
Schoolcraft, who collected All-Conference Honorable Mention accolades as a freshman in 2006, paced the team with 169 blocks (1.19 per game) while averaging 2.01 kills per contest. 
 
Beiting played in all 41 of Malone’s matches this season and tallied 1.88 kills and 3.08 digs per game in addition to registering 58 blocks, 39 service aces and 99 assists.
 
The Pioneers’ solid season came to close over the weekend as the squad claimed a runner-up finish at the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Tournament.  Malone concluded the year with a 23-18 overall record and an 11-3 mark in the AMC North Division.
