Pioneers Earn Additional Postseason Honors

In addition to their previous recognition from the American Mideast Conference, five members of the Malone College men’s soccer team have been named to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-East Region Team.

Senior defender George Tagaris (Queens, New York) and senior midfielder Lucas Martorana (Warren, Ohio) were both named to the All-Region Team while junior midfielder Zach Rausch (Cuyahoga Falls H.S.), senior defender Jason Nelson (Green H.S.) and senior goal keeper Mike Porter (Highland H.S.) were each voted All-East Region Honorable Mention.  In addition, Martorana was third in the voting and thus is also eligible for NCCAA All-America (TBA).

Tagaris anchored a strong Malone defense that tallied a 1.77 goals-against average this season while Martorana registered two goals and made substantial defensive contributions. Rausch notched four goals with three assists.  Nelson posted two goals on the year and Porter had another strong season in front of the net as he recorded 63 saves with a 1.91 goals-against average.

The Pioneers concluded their 2007 campaign with a 6-10-2 overall record and a 2-3-0 mark in the AMC North Division.
