Shane Humphrey Named AMC Player Of The WeekShane Humphrey, of McZena, Ohio (Loudonville H.S.) and a senior center on the Malone College men’s basketball team, was recently named the American Mideast Conference Player of the Week following his impressive performance during a pair of Pioneer victories at Embry-Riddle (FL) University’s Bahama House Shootout on January 1-2, 2008.
Humphrey averaged 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals per game to lead Malone to a pair of wins in contests with Tennessee Wesleyan College and NAIA Division II #4 Embry-Riddle. The 6’5” senior tallied 13 points and six boards in a 57-55 triumph over Tennessee Wesleyan College on Tuesday evening. He then posted 21 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals in the Pioneers’ 86-83 upset victory against previously undefeated Embry-Riddle in the tournament’s championship game on Wednesday. Humphrey shot 72.2% (13-18) from the field on the week, knocked down eight of nine (88.9%) free throws and was recognized as the shootout’s Most Valuable Player following his strong performance.
With the two victories, Malone stretched its winning streak to seven games and improved its overall record to 12-4 on the season. The squad will return to action on Saturday evening when it opens American Mideast Conference North Division play with a 7:30 p.m. contest against Daemen (NY) College. |
