Pioneers Ranked 24th In NAIA Spring Coaches’ PollThe Malone College football team is ranked 24th in the 2008 NAIA Spring Football Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. The Pioneers tallied an 8-4 record in 2007 and wrapped up their season with a convincing 45-17 win over NCAA Division III Geneva (PA) College in the 11th annual NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Victory Bowl.
Carroll (MT) College, last season’s NAIA National Champion, received all 16 first place votes to grab the poll’s top spot. Joining Malone in the preseason rankings are fellow Mid-States Football Association Mideast League members the University of Saint Francis (IN) at #4, Ohio Dominican University at #6, and Saint Xavier (IL) University at #8.
The Pioneers narrowly missed out on the NAIA playoffs last fall and ended the year ranked #25 in the final NAIA National Poll. Malone set 38 new team and individual records during its ’07 campaign and the squad’s eight victories marked the program’s highest win total since 1996. The Pioneers recently wrapped up their spring practice period and are set to open the 2008 season on September 6th at the Apprentice School in Newport News, Virginia. |
