Position opening: ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Reports to: Vice President for Student Development
Position Description:
The Director of Athletics is responsible for the vision, administration and development of a distinctly Christian, comprehensive, competitive, and respected intercollegiate athletic program to include all aspects of personnel, budget, operations, facilities management, student-athlete participation, intercollegiate team competitions and for an intramural athletics
program aimed at encouraging broad participation at all levels of skill.
Specific responsibilities include:
VISION
- Serve as the principal voice for Malone’s Athletic Department, with all campus and community constituencies
- Provide a vision for athletics on a distinctly Evangelical Christian College Campus
- Provide leadership, spiritual mentorship, professional development, and a team atmosphere for coaches
- Coordinate the recruitment, orientation, supervision, retention, and evaluation of coaches, athletic training staff, support staff
- Formulation and implementation of all athletic policies and strategic planning
- Promote and implement leadership development programs for student athletes including community service, citizenship, diversity, etc.
- Work closely with the Vice President for Student Development to integrate athletics into the overall educational mission of Malone
FINANCIAL
- Oversee financial management of the athletics program, all in keeping with the regulations promulgated by the NAIA, NCCAA and the AMC, MFSA and Malone
- Develop and coordinate interaction with prospective donors (friends, ex-lettermen, and alumni), foundations, and city, state and national officials.
- Develop new sources of revenue via camps, clinics and concession sales and create a solid relationship with physical plant to enhance summer camp possibilities.
MANAGEMENT
- Oversee building management of Osborne Hall and campus athletic facilities including the scheduling of those facilities for both athletic and non-athletic purposes
- Give guidance to the creation of schedules (both practice and performance) for each sport
- Work closely with the athletic training department to coordinate support for games and practices to the benefit of both departments.
- Coordinate home game administration
- Certify student athletic eligibility for all athletic teams; communicate with the Registrars
- Office and the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) to verify all information
- Serve as a member of the Student Development Directors team; participate in meetings, activities, policy development, etc.
- Supervise the public relations and media efforts for the department, working with the Communications and Admissions Offices as appropriate.
- Chair the Malone Athletic Hall of Fame Committee
- Act as the advisor for a student run intramural program
- Other Duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Development
REQUIREMENTS
A strong active Christian faith in agreement with an evangelical community like

College
, Baccalaureate degree required, master’s degree preferred. Possess three to five years of athletic experience at the college level or equivalent; knowledge of NAIA. Possess vision for the role of athletics within the mission of
Malone
College
and the ability to lead others to help in the realization of the vision. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to relate to diverse constituencies: coaches, faculty, staff, student athletes, alumni and donors. The Athletic Director must also demonstrate a willingness to understand the relationship between
Malone
College
and the
Evangelical
Friends
Church
(EFC-ER) and to enhance the place of athletics in that relationship. Lastly, the Athletic Director must possess an ability to manage and coordinate events, facilities and schedules.
