Malone Men, Women Sweep AMC All-Sports Awards For 2007-08

The Malone College men’s and women’s athletic programs have each captured the American Mideast Conference All-Sports Award for the 2007-08 academic year.  The awards take into account a school's overall performance in the eight women's championship sports and the men's seven championship sports.  The title was the third straight for the Pioneer men’s program and their seventh overall while the Malone women pocketed their first title in five years and their fifth overall.  The Malone sweep also marked the third time that the Pioneer men and women have both won the award in the same year (2000-01; 2002-03).

The Malone men captured conference championships in all but one sport (soccer) having earned AMC titles in cross country, basketball, baseball, golf, tennis and track & field.  The Pioneer women posted a conference championship in golf.

The Malone men tallied 55.0 points to easily defeat runner-up Cedarville University which had 41.5 points, among a 14-school men’s field.  In the women’s 16-school field, Malone racked up 45.5 points to edge Walsh University , which tallied 42.5 points.  See attached sheet or visit

Other than the 2004-05 campaign in which both Malone programs finished second, either the Malone men or women have taken a first-place in each of the 10 years that the AMC (changed from Mid-Ohio Conference in fall of 1998) has had an All-Sports competition.

With the conclusion of the 10th AMC All-Sports Awards, Malone holds the most first-place finishes for both the men’s (seven titles) and women’s divisions (five titles).
