At
the Ohio Educator’s Standards Board (ESB) meeting earlier this year, the ESB
moved Malone’s Teacher Education status from conditional to a full effective
status approval – the highest level.
This status change is the end result of an on-going Ohio department of Education (ODE) teacher
education unit approval process that Malone entered into 6 ˝ years ago,
concluding with an on-site visit by an Ohio Board of Examiners team in 2005.
The
ESB expressed that it was pleased with the College’s continuous improvement
report and data – and that Malone well met performance benchmarks and
performance-based unit standards from the National Council for Accreditation of
Teacher Education. This important achievement was accomplished much to the
credit of retiring dean of the School
of Education, Christine
A. Krol, Ph.D.
According to Dr. Krol, “There is some
historical significance for Malone
College because it is the
first time that Malone teacher education was required to meet performance
benchmarks and meet the performance-based unit standards that went into effect
in the year 2001. This has been a challenging yet rewarding process for
those involved with teacher education at Malone. My heartfelt thanks to
those education and other faculty, administrators, and staff who put their
hearts, heads, and hands into helping us get full approval.”
The
ESB’s next approval visit to Malone will take place in the spring of 2010. |
