Steve Moroney Named New Men's Tennis Coach At Malone College

Dr. Steve Moroney has been named the new men’s tennis head coach at Malone College, the College’s athletic director Charlie Grimes announced today.  Moroney replaces four-year head coach Tom Brown who stepped down from the position in May.

Moroney, who has been a professor in Theology at Malone the past 15 years and who will continue in that position, takes over a program that, last season, earned its first NAIA national tournament bid since 1995 after capturing its first region title in 13 years.  The 2008 team posted an overall record of 17-6 and a 5-0 mark in the American Mideast Conference.

“Our players are men of strong character who truly represent Malone College’s motto of Christ’s Kingdom First,” said Moroney.  “Along with (assistant) coach Dan Yard, I look forward to working with the team to build on their past successes.”

Grimes is equally pleased with the hiring of Moroney.  “Steve is an excellent mentor to our students both academically and spiritually,” commented Grimes.  “Adding him to our coaching staff will not only benefit our tennis players, but also our whole department.”

Steve and his wife, Sue, reside in Canton.  They have two daughters, Grace and Joy.
