Malone Suffers Losses To Saint Francis (IN), Bethel (IN) At Cougar Cup

The Malone College women’s soccer team dropped a pair of hard-fought matches over the weekend at the University of Saint Francis Cougar Cup in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  The Pioneers opened their season on Friday evening with a 4-0 loss to the host Cougars and then fell to Bethel (IN) College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 2-0.

Against Saint Francis, the Cougars pulled ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 16th minute.  The score then remained unchanged until early in the second half as Saint Francis put the contest away with a pair of quick scores in the 52nd and 55th minutes.  The Cougars then tacked on another goal in the final moments to cement the 4-0 triumph.

In Saturday’s contest against Bethel, the Pilots broke a scoreless tie midway through the first half, pulling ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 26th minute.  Bethel then posted another goal a little over ten minutes into the second half.  Although Malone kept the match close down the stretch, the squad was unable to cut into the two-goal deficit, falling by the 2-0 final.

This week, Malone (0-2-0, 0-0-0 AMC) will participate in just one match as the squad opens conference play on Saturday at home with a 3:30 p.m. match against Daemen (NY) College (0-2-0, 0-0-0 AMC).
