Cross Country Teams Compete Well At KSU Short Course OpenThe Malone College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2008 season in solid fashion at the non-scoring Kent State University Short Course Open last Friday as some outstanding times were posted by Pioneer student-athletes.
For the men, Aaron Melhorn (So., Fairless H.S.) paced the team with a second-place individual finish in a time of 19:05.99 over the 6K course. Nik Schweikert (Sr., Beavercreek H.S.) followed in fourth place at 19:16.22 while James Zeuch (So., Galion H.S.) was right behind in fifth (19:18.37).
Other finishers for the men's team included Paul Robinson (Jr., Field H.S.) in 12th (19:33.02), Jeremy Arthur (Fr., Medina H.S.) in 23rd (20:00.35), Tony Migliozzi (Fr., St. Thomas Aquinas H.S.) in 24th (20:01.85), Chris Sinick (Jr., Field H.S.) in 25th (20:08.24), Zach Mathias (Fr., Galion H.S.) in 28th (20:12.92), Kyle Randolph (So., Galion H.S.) in 29th (20:21.12), Evan Gaynor (Jr., Delta H.S.) in 35th (20:42.25), Keith Burns (Sr., Minerva H.S.) in 39th (20:57.79) and Bryan Eckenfels (So., Northwestern H.S.) in 43rd (21:37.17).
For the women, Kristin Downing (So., Lake H.S.) led the unit with a third-place finish overall in a time of 15:08.50 over the 4K course. Caitlin Sharp (Fr., East Canton H.S.) was next for the squad in fifth place in 15:25.78.
Other finishers for the women included Rebekah Genter (Sr., Crestview H.S.) in sixth (15:29.08), Sarah Hines (Jr., Northmor H.S.) in eighth (15:38.22), Ashton Avery (Fr., McKinley H.S.) in 10th (15:46.90), Tynae Wilson (Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN) in 12th (15:49.47), Erin Bauer (Fr., Loveland H.S.) in 14th (16:00.83), Melissa Roth (Fr., Celina H.S.) in 15th (16:03.78), Becky Nitzel (Fr., Malvern H.S.) in 21st (17:25.85), Allison Black (Fr., Norwich, CT) in 23rd (17:48.45) and Bailey Teague (Fr., CVCA) in 28th (18:32.72).
This week, the teams are idle and will next compete at the U.S. Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday, September 13th.
