Pair Of Second-Half Goals Lift Tiffin To 2-0 Victory Over MaloneThe Malone College men’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss in its home opener to NCAA Division II Tiffin University on Wednesday evening. The match remained scoreless at intermission, but the Dragons (1-2 overall, 0-0 GLIAC) then struck for two second second-half goals to register the victory. With the hard-fought defeat, Malone’s overall record falls to 0-2 on the young season (0-0 American Mideast Conference).
Tiffin jumped ahead early on in the second stanza, scoring off a give-and-go in the 46th minute take a 1-0 advantage. The score then remained unchanged until the 82nd minute when the Dragons tacked on an insurance goal to secure the 2-0 win.
The Pioneers registered four shots on goal in the match compared to 15 shots on goal for Tiffin. Sophomore goal keeper Warden Neuenschwander (Linden, VA) made 11 saves for Malone while Dragon keeper Jeff Frisch made four stops to record his first shutout of 2008.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday afternoon as they open conference play at home with a 1:30 p.m. match against Daemen (NY) College (0-2 overall, 0-0 AMC). |
