Paul Traxler's Second-Half Goal Propels Malone To 1-0 Win Over Daemen (NY)The Malone College men’s soccer team opened American Mideast Conference play at home on Saturday afternoon with 1-0 win over Daemen (NY) College. The Pioneers, who had been shutout in their first two matches of the year, finally broke through with a goal in the 58th minute of Saturday’s contest as freshmen James Larimer (Maysville H.S.) and John David Eades (Central Christian H.S.) assisted fellow freshman Paul Traxler (Norton H.S.). This single tally would turn out to be all sophomore goalkeeper Warden Neuenschwander (Linden, VA) and the rest of the Pioneer defense would need as they blanked the Wildcats over the final 32 minutes of the match to preserve the shutout victory. The 1-0 win pushed Malone’s overall record to 1-2 on the year (1-0 AMC) while dropping Daemen to 0-3 (0-1 AMC).
The Pioneers held a 10-5 advantage in total shots on goal in Saturday’s contest. Wildcat keeper Gary Arruda tallied nine saves on the afternoon while Neuenschwander stopped all five of Daemen’s shots for his first career shutout.
This week, Malone (1-2 overall, 1-0 AMC) will host Mount Vernon Nazarene University (2-2 overall, 0-0 AMC) on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. before traveling to southwest Ohio on Saturday to face Cincinnati Christian University (0-4 overall, 0-0 KIAC) in a 7:00 p.m. match. Saturday’s contest against CCU will be played under the lights at Xavier University’s soccer complex. |
