Pioneers Drop 2-1 Decision To Daemen (NY) In Overtime

The Malone College women’s soccer team suffered a hard-fought 2-1 overtime loss to Daemen (NY) College in its home opener on Saturday afternoon.  The visiting Wildcats held a 1-0 advantage at intermission before senior midfielder Ashley Dennerlein (Baden, PA) knotted the contest at 1-1 in the second half after scoring off a pass from senior forward Aleesha Denmeade (Hoover H.S.).  The match then remained deadlocked at 1-1 until Wildcat forward Lindsay Miller found the back of the net in the first overtime period to lift Daemen to the 2-1 victory.  With the tough American Mideast Conference loss, the Pioneers fell to 0-3 on the season (0-1 AMC) while the Wildcats improved to 2-2 overall (1-0 AMC).

Malone trailed 21-8 in shots on goal as Pioneer keepers Merisa Salazar (Sr., San Jose, CA) and Vana Morgan (West Branch H.S.) combined to make 19 saves.

This week, Malone (0-3 overall, 0-1 AMC) will compete in just one match as it travels to Cedarville University (4-0 overall, 1-0 AMC) on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. contest with the Yellow Jackets.
