Malone Loses To Cedarville On The Road

The Malone College women’s soccer team fell on the road Saturday afternoon to Cedarville University by a final score of 8-2.  The Pioneers trailed by a 3-1 deficit at halftime before the Yellow Jackets put the match out of reach with five scores in the second stanza.  With the American Mideast Conference loss, Malone falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the AMC while Cedarville improves to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

The host Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in Saturday’s match with a quick score in the opening minute of play.  The Pioneers pulled even in the eighth minute as midfielder Ashley Dennerlein (Sr., Baden, PA) scored her second goal of the season to knot the contest at 1-1.  Cedarville answered with two more first-half goals and then pushed its advantage to 4-1 with another score in the opening seconds of the second frame.  Midfielder Susanna Jonkka (Fr., Helsinki, Finland) struck back for the Pioneers less than a minute later, cutting the deficit to 4-2 with her first collegiate goal.  Cedarville was then able pull away, however, scoring four goals over the remainder of the second half to cement the 8-2 victory.

The Yellow Jackets held a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal as Pioneer keeper Vana Morgan (West Branch H.S.) notched five saves.
