Pioneer Cross Country Teams Each Place Fourth At U.S. Navy Invitationals

 
 
For the first time in school history, the Malone College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland last Saturday in the U.S. Navy Invitational (men's meet) and the Salty Dog Invitational (women's meet).  Both Pioneer teams finished a very respectable fourth among their respective 14-team (men's) and 15-team (women's) fields, ones that, except for Malone, consisted of all NCAA Div. I squads.     
 
The Malone men tallied 99 points as host Navy took the men's team title with 64 points.  The University of Richmond (VA) took second (80), the University of Ma ryland was third (85) and Virginia Commonwealth University rounded out the top five (126).
 
The Malone women finished with 127 points as Richmond captured the women's team title with 42 points.  Navy was second (55), Maryland placed third (75) and Furman (SC) University rounded out the top five (157).
 
For the Pioneer men, Nik Schweikert (Sr., Beavercreek H.S.) led the way with a seventh-place finish overall in a time of 25:15.40 over the 8K course while James Zeuch (So., Galion H.S.) was close behind in ninth place (25:24.90).  Also scoring for Malone were Paul Robinson (Jr., Field H.S.) in 17th (25:53.70), Kyle Randolph (So., Galion H.S.) in 31st (26:40.30) and Chris Sinick (Jr., Field H.S.) in 35th (26:49.70).
 
Others who competed for the men's team included Aaron Melhorn (So., Fairless H.S.) in 42nd (27:00.20), Tony Migliozzi (Fr., St. Thomas Aquinas H.S.) in 49th (27:12.70), Zach Mathias (Fr., Galion H.S.) in 60th (27:35.30), Ryan Crocker (Sr., CVCA) in 70th (27:48.30), Evan Gaynor (Jr., Delta H.S.) in 86th (28:26.30), Bryan Eckenfels (So., Northwestern H.S.) in 90th (28:39.70) and Jeremy Arthur (Fr., Medina H.S.) in 99th (28:54.90).
 
For the Malone women, Rebekah Genter (Sr., Crestview H.S.) paced the squad with a 15th-place finish in a time of 23:29.00 over the 6K course while Kristen Downing (So., Lake H.S.) was next for the team, in 21st (23:54.00).  Also scoring the team were Kalie Hauenstein (Jr., Ashland H.S.) in 24th (24:07.00), Sarah Hines (Jr., Northmor H.S.) in 30th (24:25.00) and Lindsey Pifher (So., Colonel Crawford H.S.) in 37th (24:41.00).
 
Others who compete for the women's squad included Erin Bauer (Fr., Loveland H.S.) in 51st (24:52.25), Ashton Avery (Fr., McKinley H.S.) in 56th (24:56.00), Caitlin Sharp (Fr., East Canton H.S.) in 57th (25:04.00), Melissa Roth (Fr., Celina H.S.) in 71st (25:44.00), Becky Neitzel (Fr., Malvern H.S.) in 123rd (28:24.21), Allison Black (Fr., Norwich, CT) in 129th (28:35.00) and Bailey Teague (Fr., CVCA) in 154th (32:07.00).
    
This week, the teams are idle and will next compete at the Loyola (IL) University Invitational on Saturday, September 27th.
