Nik Schweikert, Derek Deardorff Named NCCAA Student Athletes Of The WeekTwo Malone College athletes recently received NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Student Athlete of the Week recognition following their impressive performances during the week of September 8-14. Nik Schweikert, of the men’s cross country team, and Derek Deardorff, of the Pioneer football team, each earned the national honor.
Schweikert, a senior from Beavercreek, Ohio (Beavercreek H.S.), led the Malone men to a fourth-place finish among 14 schools at the U.S. Naval Academy Invitational on Saturday. Competing against an entirely NCAA Division I field, Schweikert placed seventh overall in a time of 25:15.40.
Deardorff, a senior from Kenton, Ohio (Kenton H.S.), tallied 11 catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday in Malone’s narrow 35-28 loss to Union (KY) College. This strong performance marked Deardorff’s third consecutive 100-yard game and the fourth straight contest in which he has caught a touchdown pass (including the last three games of 2007). Deardorff has now caught 20 career TD passes, which ranks third on Malone’s all-time touchdown reception list. |
