Aleesha Denmeade's Hat Trick Leads Pioneers To 3-0 Win Over Rio Grande

The Malone College women’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday evening at the University of Rio Grande as forward Aleesha Denmeade (Sr., Hoover H.S.) scored three times to lift her squad to a 3-0 victory.  Midfielder Susanna Jonkka (Fr., Helsinki, Finland) assisted Denmeade on the first of her three goals in the eighth minute of the match.  Denmeade then pushed the Pioneers’ lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute after scoring off a pass from midfielder Ashley Dennerlein (Sr., Baden, PA).  The seniors then combined again in the 38th minute as Denmeade headed a Dennerlein corner kick into the net to give Malone a commanding 3-0 advantage.  These three first-half goals then stood up over the remainder of the contest as goalkeeper Vana Morgan (Sr., West Branch H.S.) stopped all five shots that she faced to record her first career shutout.  Following the 3-0 American Mideast Conference victory, the Pioneers’ record improved to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the AMC while the Red Storm dropped to 0-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play.

Malone will be aiming for win number two on Saturday as the squad hosts Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College (5-2-1 overall, 3-0-0 AMC) at 3:00 p.m.
