Malone Suffers 1-0, Double-Overtime Loss To Lake ErieThe Malone College men’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to NCAA Division II Lake Erie College on the road Tuesday afternoon as the Storm scored the only goal of the match with under three minutes remaining in the contest’s second overtime period. Each squad played strong defense throughout the tightly-contested match with Malone holding a slim 5-4 advantage in total shots on goal. With the tough, non-conference defeat, the Pioneers’ overall record fell to 2-6 while Lake Erie improved to 2-8.
Malone goal keeper Derek Jeffrey (Fr., Norton H.S.) tallied three saves on Tuesday evening in his second collegiate start. Storm keeper Clay Bolton, meanwhile, stopped all five shots that he faced to record his first career shutout.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back on Saturday evening when they travel to Cedarville University (2-6-1 overall, 1-2-1 AMC) for a 7:30 p.m. American Mideast Conference contest. |
