Pioneers Fall At Ohio Dominican, 3-1

The Malone College women’s soccer team lost 3-1 in an American Mideast Conference match at Ohio Dominican University on Tuesday evening.  The host Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage with a goal in the opening moments of the contest, but Pioneer forward Aleesha Denmeade (Sr., Hoover H.S.) then found the back of the net late in the first half to tie the match 1-1 at intermission.  The contest remained deadlocked until the 75th minute when ODU scored from close range to take a 2-1 advantage.  Malone was then unable to manufacture another goal over the remainder of the match as the Panthers tacked on an insurance tally in the final minute to cement the 3-1 victory.  With the hard-fought defeat, the Pioneers’ record dropped to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the AMC while Ohio Dominican improved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Panthers held an 11-4 advantage in total shots on goal in the contest.  Malone goalkeeper Vana Morgan (Sr., West Branch H.S.), who is filling in for injured starter Merisa Salazar (Sr., San Jose, CA), tallied eight saves in her fourth consecutive start.

Malone returns to action on Saturday afternoon at home as the squad hosts Carlow (PA) University (1-7 overall, 0-5 AMC) in a 1:00 p.m. match.
