Pioneers Fall 5-0 At Cedarville

The Malone College men’s soccer team lost 5-0 in an American Mideast Conference match at Cedarville University on Saturday evening.  The host Yellow Jackets led 2-0 at halftime and then tacked on three more goals in the second frame to cement the 5-0 victory.  The loss dropped the Pioneers’ record to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the AMC while Cedarville improved to 3-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.

The Yellow Jackets held a 7-1 advantage in total shots on goal in the match.  Malone keepers Derek Jeffrey (Fr., Norton H.S.) and Warden Neuenschwander (So., Linden, VA) combined to make two saves while Cedarville keeper Kevin Bender stopped the only shot he faced to record his fourth shutout of the season.

This week, Malone (2-7 overall, 1-4 AMC) will host NCAA Division II Ohio Valley (WV) University (5-4-1 overall, 2-1 WVIAC) on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.  The squad will then return to conference play at home on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. match against Notre Dame (OH) College (8-1 overall, 3-0 AMC).
