Malone’s Nik Schweikert, Maurice Gore Garner NCCAA Student Athlete Of The Week RecognitionTwo Malone College athletes recently received NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Student Athlete of the Week honors following their impressive performances this past Saturday (Sept. 27). Nik Schweikert, of the men’s cross country team, and Maurice Gore, of the Pioneer football team, each collected the national honor.
Schweikert, a senior from Beavercreek, Ohio (Beavercreek H.S.), led the NAIA #1 Pioneers to a first-place finish at the 35-team Loyola University Invitational in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday. Competing against a mostly NCCAA Division I field, Schweikert defeated nearly 370 runners to place first overall in a time of 24:49.
Gore, a sophomore running back from Lansing, Michigan, rushed 15 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns (6.9 average) on Saturday in Malone’s convincing 43-3 win at Olivet Nazarene (IL) University. Gore also contributed in the passing game as he tallied three receptions for 39 yards.
