Malone And Ohio Valley Play To 1-1 Stalemate

 
The Malone College men’s soccer team tied NCAA Division II Ohio Valley (WV) University 1-1 at home on Tuesday afternoon.  OVU jumped ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 35th minute of action.  The score then remained unchanged until 30 minutes into the second half as Pioneer defender Jordan Smith (Fr., Lake H.S.) knotted the contest at 1-1 after registering his first career goal.  Neither team was then able to find the back of the net over the remainder of regulation and two overtime periods, resulting in the 1-1 draw.  Following Tuesday’s non-conference contest, the Pioneers’ record now stands at 2-7-1 on the season while the Fighting Scots’ overall mark moved to 5-4-2.
 
Ohio Valley held a slim 5-4 advantage in total shots on goal in the match.  Malone keepers Derek Jeffrey (Fr., Norton H.S.) and Warden Neuenschwander (So., Linden, VA) combined to make four saves. 
 
The Pioneers return to American Mideast Conference action on Saturday as they host NAIA No. 19 Notre Dame (OH) College in a 12:30 p.m. contest.
