Graduate Assistant - Department of Counseling and Psychology and Department of Education

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Chair of the Counseling and Psychology Department (10 hours per week) and under the direction of the Chair and the Licensure and Data Coordinator of the Department of Education (10 hours per week), the Graduate Assistant provides support and works collaboratively with faculty and staff in both departments.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities for the Graduate Counseling Programs within the Department of Counseling and Psychology

(10 hours per week)

The following duties are not to be considered a complete list of duties and responsibilities assigned to this position.

  • Perform office and clerical duties
  • Manage scheduling of counseling sessions for students within the on-campus counseling center
  • Research and search for information needed to assist with various Graduate Counseling projects and events
  • Assist with CACREP accreditation tasks and responsibilities
  • Provide assistance with various Graduate Counseling events
  • Communicate with faculty (both full-time core faculty and adjunct faculty) and students
  • Update and maintain electronic trainings and information for students (e.g., Orientation PowerPoint presentation, Pre-Practicum PowerPoint presentation)
  • Maintain and post information to social networking outlets utilized by the Graduate Counseling Programs
  • Maintain and update MaloneXpress resources for students
  • Serve on Chi Sigma Iota and assist with related meetings and events
  • Adhere to confidentiality policies and principles at all times
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chair and/or Director

Essential duties, tasks and responsibilities for the Department of Education

(10 hours per week)

  • Data entry for the Education Department
  • Hire, train, and supervise all students who serve as America Reads tutors; tutoring room reservation, market program to the community, and provide direct oversight of the after school tutoring program;
  • Regularly evaluate the tutors and conduct surveys of tutors and families served by the program to gauge program effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Be enrolled full-time as a regular degree-seeking graduate student at Malone University
  • Maintain status as a full-time student each semester, including the summer semester
  • Maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average for all graduate coursework
  • Demonstrate excellent, professional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Value working as part of a team and able to work independently as well
  • Exhibit skill in breaking down tasks and procedures for those who need assistance with TK20
  • Be in alignment with Malone University’s mission, foundational principles, Doctrinal Statements

Remuneration and Work Hours:

  • Tuition remission for graduate progra
  • 20 hours of work per week, 36 weeks from August 26th, 2024, in the fall 2019 semester through May 31st, 2025 (720 hours)
  • Available to work between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

Termination/Resignation:

  • The Graduate Assistant’s performance will be reviewed at the end of each semester. The contract period is for a duration of one academic year. The contract period of one year is renewable for the second year pending satisfactory evaluations.
  • Malone University has the right to terminate if the needs of the institution change or if the financial resources are such that it is deemed necessary.
  • Malone University has the right to terminate for cause, unsatisfactory work performance and/or academic performance.
  • If the Graduate Assistant elects to resign, the expectation is that the resignation will coincide with the end of an academic year. At such time, tuition remission will cease as will the payment of any stipend. If the Graduate Assistant selects to remain a student in the graduate program, financial responsibility for tuition will revert to the Graduate Assistant for the remaining program of study.
