Graduate Assistant - Malone Honors and General Education Programs

About the position

Malone University is seeking applicants for a graduate assistant position in support of the
undergraduate Honors Program and the General Education Program at Malone University. The position will require 20 work hours each week, including both ongoing tasks and longer-term projects. Half of that time will be devoted to the Honors Program and the other half to the General Education Program.

Essential duties, tasks, and responsibilities

Specific duties will be assigned in the following areas:

Meetings

  • Meet regularly and work closely with the Director of the Honors Program and with the Director of General Education.

Data Management

  • Maintain spreadsheets and track up-to-date information about course offerings, students, recruits, alumni, faculty or staff, and other aspects of programs, including sensitive and confidential information.

Students and Event Planning

  • Help plan and coordinate student and staff events, including facility reservations, invitations, refreshments, equipment, tickets, and transportation. Attend and participate in at least some of these events.
  • Develop informal mentoring relationships with students.

Recruitment (Honors Program only)

  • Assist with ongoing tasks and initiatives related to the recruitment of Honors students.
  • Help represent the program to prospective students and other constituencies.

Carry out related tasks and other duties as assigned by the Honors and General Education Directors.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree is required and the successful candidate must be accepted into one of Malone University's graduate programs.
  • Candidates need creative energy and problem solving skills, and the ability to work independently.
  • Candidates should possess strong organizational and written/oral communication skills.
  • Candidates need good interpersonal skills and the ability to serve as a thoughtful and caring informal mentor.
  • Candidates should be able to work efficiently with Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets, or demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Candidates need to serve and abide by Malone's Mission, Foundational Principles, and Community Agreement.
