Prospect Research Coordinator
About the position
Under the direction of the Director of Advancement Operations, the Prospect Research Coordinator will assist with the information needs of the Office of Advancement by preparing donor profiles, verifying research data, providing proactive research, and analyzing data on individual constituents of interest to Malone University.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Director of Advancement Operations, assist in preparing prospect research profiles for potential and identified major gift and high-level annual gift prospects for Malone University.
- Monitor contact and internal giving reports for potential new prospects for major and annual fund giving.
- Provide data for requests and provide verification of screened prospected research information (i.e. giving capacities) as requested.
- Review and monitor electronic and paper resources for research-related information about Malone University constituents, alumni, parents and friends of the University. Distribute and record pertinent information in the Raiser’s Edge database.
- Maintain prospect research fields of data in the Raiser’s Edge database.
- Maintain major gift officer portfolios through donor assignments.
- Prepare prospect reports and assist the Office of Advancement in preparing giving and major gift tracking reports.
- Utilizing training modules and working with the Director of Advancement Operations, become proficient in the use of Raiser’s Edge software and assist in providing training to staff within the Advancement Office.
- Through professional development, keep up-to-date with effective prospect research and prospect management techniques as well as trends in the prospect research profession and the advancement/fundraising field.
- At all times, uphold the ethical and confidentiality guidelines of the University, the Ohio Prospect Research Network (OPRN), and the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
- Become an expert database user by attending user group meetings, forums, conferences and other educational opportunities to grow your own capabilities and share with the division at large.
- Fulfills other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must exhibit a personal understanding of, and operate in concert with the University's evangelical Christian mission and the Foundational Principles of the University. A bachelor's degree is preferred. Ability to conceptualize and develop research methodologies. Experience in researching individuals, foundation, and corporations in the public and/or private sectors for updating constituency information for fundraising activities is a plus. Ability to coordinate multi-faceted projects with minimal supervision and high initiative in a deadline driven environment.
Proven ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, is essential. Attention to detail, excellent computer skills and a demonstrated ability in problem solving are essential. Proven effective relational and collaborative skills are also required. Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) is required. The ability to master new computer-based systems promptly and proficiently is essential. In particular, must become proficient in Raiser’s Edge and limited knowledge of Jenzabar- university proprietary database.
A proven ability to maintain high levels of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality are essential. A demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of people, a commitment to diversity, and a demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems, initiate, and implement projects independently is essential.
Hours per week may vary based on the needs and fluctuations of the fundraising and events cycle. Occasional evening, weekend and commitments may be necessary at times.
