Tutoring and Retention Coordinator
About the position
The Tutoring and Retention Coordinator will oversee all tutoring and mentoring services in the Center for Student Success. This programming is designed to increase retention and overall student success for all students. They are responsible for comprehensive academic support service programming, providing students with additional learning assistance outside the classroom. They will work collaboratively with other University personnel to provide support services, including individual intervention strategies, and contact with at risk students. They will oversee all peer tutoring, mentoring, and the early alert system. The priority for this position is to ensure quality, consistent student support that will prepare and sustain a diverse student body.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Coordinate tutoring and academic support services using WCOnline as the tutoring platform.
- Hire, train and support all peer tutors and mentors.
- Maintain working relationships with academic departments to support overall retention and student success initiatives.
- Collaborate with faculty to identify and select tutors.
- Collaborate with departments to promote the tutoring and academic support programs.
- Maintain the early alert referral system and organize supportive intervention for students identified to be at risk.
- Identify best practices, strengthen existing retention initiatives, and develop new strategies to improve retention and student completion rates.
- Encourage student self-advocacy and responsibility in ways that promote academic success.
- Support the Director of Center for Student Success in monitoring student retention by providing interventions, and trainings that serve to promote persistence and completion.
- Manage payroll for all tutors including collecting and approving timesheets weekly.

- A proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing is essential. Proven effective relational skills are also required with a clear commitment to diversity. A demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of people and a demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and complete projects independently is essential.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Google Sheets) is required. Proven timemanagement skills, the ability to prioritize and record keeping abilities are essential. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentially of sensitive materials is essential.
- Must demonstrate Malone University’s welcoming, mentoring, and serving philosophy in all interactions with students, families and community members.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in higher education or related field is required, Master’s preferred.
- Possess knowledge of principles, practices used in both tutoring and retention, be willing to obtain additional training as needed.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- A minimum of 3-5 years professional experience in a tutoring and/or retention setting is preferred.
