Have you ever wondered what it’s like to manage investment portfolios, analyze stocks, and grow an endowment in real time?
The Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) Club will allow you to explore the theory of equity portfolio management and apply those concepts to a real fund. Analyze stocks, interview Malone administration, make decisions while employing a low turnover strategy, and track the consequences of the execution of those decisions for approximately 1.5% of the corpus of the Malone University Endowment’s value.
Club meetings will also include regular financial experts to serve as guest speakers on timely topics.
The Fund would consist of common stocks (equities) or ETFs where diversification within a classification is necessary (for example, Small Cap or International). Club participants will make decisions based on fundamental analysis and with an eye on diversification of the portfolio in partnership with SMIF’s director and will determine buy/sell by vote of active club members in consultation with Malone’s Vice President for Finance and Business Affairs.
At the end of each semester, students will have an opportunity to present their work to Malone’s administration.
SMIF will meet weekly during the fall and spring semesters, and is open to all students who are interested in learning more about investing in common stocks and helping to grow Malone’s Endowment. Leadership opportunities will be available, including club president and club controller.
