Kappa Delta Pi

Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education, has a chapter at Malone University. The Rho Tau chapter has more than 50 active members annually. Eligibility requirements include a GPA of 3.25, completion of 12 hours in education coursework, and acceptance in the major. Membership in Kappa Delta Pi gives a candidate more than a line on a résumé. The Society provides resources and services at each stage of the professional career to help someone become and remain a better educator.

The Society creed includes ideals of service toil, fidelity to humanity and service. These ideals are exemplified in the activities in which Malone's chapter in annually engaged.

Fall semester's Jammin in your Jammies concert is a chapter sponsored fundraiser to enable the chapter to support a family in the community who would otherwise have no means to provide tangible gifts at Christmas for their children.

The spring semester service project, LATE Night, hosts an evening of literacy and fellowship at a local urban elementary school. Chapter members read books, play literacy games, and feed children in grades 4-6 from a Canton City School.

Monthly meetings focus on professional development and often feature guest speakers who were once Malone teacher candidates themselves.

The Rho Tau chapter has received the A.C.E. (Achieving Chapter Excellence) at each of the last three biannual convocations.

Malone Council for Exceptional Children

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities - students with disabilities and/or the gifted. CEC accomplishes its worldwide mission on behalf of educators and others working with individuals with exceptionalities by advocating for appropriate governmental policies; setting professional standards; providing continuing professional development; advocating for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities; and helping professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

The Council represents members in the United States, Canada, and in over 40 countries serving more than 5 million children with disabilities and 2.5 million gifted. CEC members are special and general educators, administrators, teacher educators, college students, related services professionals, parents and others who work on behalf of children with disabilities and children with special gifts and talents. Through the power of an extensive and active membership, CEC is relentless in providing advocacy for individuals with exceptionalities.

Malone University is proud to have a university chapter of CEC, Malone Council for Exceptional Children, which provides university students the opportunities as large group meetings with guest speakers, fun activities with faculty and other students, and involvement with the Special Olympics Swim Meet every November at the University of Akron Natatorium.
