Adjunct: Education (Computer Science Endorsement)

Job Summary
The Department of Education is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach online computer science courses for educators. The computer science endorsement (CSE) is offered at the graduate level as an add-on endorsement for current, Ohio-licensed teachers at K-12 levels.
Qualifications
• Master’s degree, which can be in education or computer science. If a Master’s degree is in education, a Bachelor’s degree must be in computer science.
• Also required is K-12 computer science or technology teaching experience, and/or experience teaching online courses at the college level in computer science.
• A terminal degree (EdS, EdD, or PhD) is preferred as well in an education related field.

Courses to be Taught
- EDCS 530 Programming & Algorithms for Educators I An introduction to algorithms and the Java programming language.
- EDCS 531 Programming & Algorithms for Educators II An Introduction to advanced algorithms and advanced structures in the Java programming language.
- EDCS 532 Introduction to Computer Science for Educators This course will give an overview of a variety of Computer Science topics. These topics include: data representation and storage, computer communication and architecture, networking and the Internet, abstraction, and Artificial Intelligence.
- EDCS 631 Emerging Technologies in the K-12 This course will cover how to analyze impacts of computing and introduction of current CS subjects including how to analyze how people influence computing through their behaviors, cultural norms, and social interactions, as well as how computing impacts society in both positive and negative ways.
- EDCS 632 Teaching Computer Science The final course will reinforce how to apply CS and computational thinking practices in flexible and appropriate ways. These practices include: Fostering an Inclusive Computing Culture, Collaborating Around Computing, Communicating About Computing, Recognizing and Defining Computational Problems, Developing and Using Abstractions, Creating Computational Artifacts, and Testing and Refining Computational Artifacts.
