Emily's Story

The ultimate goal of your education in many career fields is passing the dreaded standardized exams. Once you have successfully conquered the exam, the official feeling of your new position truly sets in. Alumna Emily Indorf, graduate of the Master of Arts in Education: Counseling and Human Development program at Malone University, passed her state licensure exam with flying colors and knew that her Malone education had prepared her well.

“My Malone education left me feeling fully prepared for my state licensure exam after graduation,” said Indorf. “When I found out I passed my exam, the reality set in that I had finally obtained my goal of becoming a licensed professional counselor.”

Indorf was also an undergraduate student at Malone which is what helped her choose Malone for her master’s program.

“I had already experienced the excellence Malone had to offer through its Christian based learning, professors, and higher standards of education,” said Indorf. “But what really drew me to the MAEd: Counseling program was its multicultural focus, CACREP accreditation, high pass rate for the state licensure exam, and the structure of evening classes.”

The structure of Malone’s Master of Arts in Education: Counseling and Human Development program gives students the opportunity to intern with counseling services for two semesters. This allows them to not only make connections in the work place, but also obtain field experience. Indorf currently works at Gentle Shepherd Counseling Center in North Canton as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

“I was hired through my internship site immediately following graduation,” said Indorf. “Malone successfully prepared me to graduate with a master’s level degree, become licensed, and practice as a beginning counselor.”

After spending a fair amount of time at Malone, Indorf can attest to future students what they can expect from their Malone experience.

“If you are considering Malone, you will not regret your decision,” said Indorf. “The Christian atmosphere, the community, the education, and the genuine professors, staff, and students really make your experience well worth it.”
