Abstract: Personality and the Motivation for Sports and Schoolwork
Many athletes from all kinds of levels do not achieve the most they can. Personality and other factors can influence how motivated they are (Todd & Brown, 2002). One study encompassed 301 athletes from the Republic of Srpska. Overall, they took the Big Five Inventory and Achievement Motive Scale. Personality seemed to influence achievement motivation (Mirkovic & Lovric, 2019). The biggest predictor for high achievement motivation was conscientiousness. It is a personality trait linked to doing one's work well and thoroughly. We asked Malone University athletes to complete a questionnaire about introversion-extraversion and about their motivation for sports and schoolwork. Forty-six athletes took part, and a correlational analysis indicated that introversion-extraversion may help to predict motivation.
