Joyce Byler, Director of the Wellness Center

How long have you been at Malone University?

I came to Malone as an adjunct faculty member in 2003, and have served as the Director of the Wellness Center and an adjunct faculty member since 2004.

What attracted you to work at Malone University?

The close-knit and caring Christian community here reminds me of my undergrad experience at Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia.

What do you enjoy most about your job responsibilities?

It brings me joy to see people utilizing the Wellness Center, actively working on their fitness. I believe it helps them to be their best self so they can do the hard work that God has chosen for them.

How do you answer when asked to describe Malone’s brand of education?

Service-oriented, life-impacting, and efficacy-building.

How would you describe Malone students?

Energizing! I am so inspired, challenged, and motivated by them.

How has working at Malone shaped your individual faith journey?

Without question, being part of this community for so long has changed my faith journey. It happens during informal conversations, and through opportunities and encouragement from my colleagues and students. It’s an ongoing growth opportunity.

Describe your colleagues and their commitment to Malone?

My colleagues are faith-driven, caring, and kind people. And when I say “caring,” I mean they truly care about each other, our students, and Malone’s mission.

Where were you born and how is that reflected in your personality?

I grew up on a farm in Seville, Ohio. Most of my days were spent outdoors either working or playing. I am constantly telling my kids, students, and anyone who will listen to just “go outside!” It is so good for physical, spiritual, and mental wellness.
