Malone University Lacrosse secures first member of inaugural team
Bryce Conn '25 comes by the Pioneer nickname naturally.
Soon to be known to the Malone University family as the first committed lacrosse recruit in the new program’s history, Conn has been in this position before as a freshman at GlenOak High School when he suited up for the Eagles in their first day of competition as a varsity sport.
“It’s a good feeling to know that we will be the first to represent Malone in lacrosse,” said Conn. “I remember what it feels like. There is so much excitement because it’s a new program and we can shape our own future.”
At GlenOak, Conn was a midfielder in his first two seasons before becoming an attacker in his junior and senior years. The Coronavirus ended his senior season after just one contest.
“I was one of eight seniors and we all were starters,” said Conn. “We were ready for a really successful season, but it was not meant to be. It was hugely disappointing.”
Returning to the sport of lacrosse with Malone’s new program is even sweeter for Conn because of what he lost as a senior in high school.
“I’m so excited to walk out there and play in front of family and friends,” he said. “I’m feeling that pressure already, but it’s a good pressure. It’s excitement about starting again.”
An incoming transfer student, Conn plans to pursue a major in sport management and has already established a strong connection with Malone Head Coach Michael Campbell.
“I love his coaching style,” said Conn. “He has already established a vision for the way we will be competitive in the GMAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference). He took the time to study my tape and wanted me even though I missed my senior year of high school. I already feel at home and am looking forward to walking out there as the first lacrosse players in the school’s history.”
