Malone University to host free workshop–Education for Virtue: The Classical Approach
Education for Virtue: The Classical Approach is designed for parents and educators to consider how to reframe conversations about classical education techniques in order to cultivate virtue in the lives of their students.
Made possible by the Stark County Community Foundation, the workshop will focus on the importance of developing moral and civic virtues in students, as well as highlighting various teaching strategies that classical education utilizes for nurturing students in the knowledge and practice of moral and civic virtues.
"We will offer something for everyone, no matter their background or prior knowledge,” said David Beer, director of the Center for Christian Faith and Culture. “We will move from the basic idea of ‘what are virtues’ and how to teach them all the way to helping parents and teachers approach classic texts. We aim to increase everyone's appreciation and cultivate a desire for virtue formation in education."
This workshop is free and open to the public. It will take place on June 5, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Johnson Center for Worship and Fine Arts, Room 106. For information about speakers, schedule, and free registration, please visit malone.edu/education-for-virtue.
"Classical education today captures the focus on character and virtue formation that the ancient Greeks placed significant stress on,” said Beer. “Reemphasizing virtues in educating our children will yield benefits for generations to come."
