Rachael Troyer ʼ24 has been awarded a 2024 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

The award is given by The DAISY Foundation, an organization that honors nurses internationally and recognizes nurses who provide exceptional compassionate care to their patients. The DAISY Foundation, which stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, was founded by the family of J. Patrick Barns who passed away at the age of 33 due to complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura.

Troyer was Malone’s BSN recipient for this year’s award, and is described by her professors as, “a compassionate nurse with a deeply rooted commitment to the Christian faith.”

“As a senior in high school I wrote a mission statement for my life: to look at the world through a lens of unconditional love, and to always be a servant and authentically live out my faith,” said Troyer. “Nursing is a calling that rings from my bones and heart—something I cannot and will not ignore.”

Troyer was recognized by her professors at the 2024 Malone Nursing Pinning Ceremony, held in Malone’s Johnson Center during Commencement weekend.
