Sophomore releases debut album "From Our Conversations"
Release party in the Stewart Room of the Randall Campus Center on March 15; 7-8:30 p.m.
Sophomore Layna Watson has been singing since before she has memories, and took the stage for the first time at the age of 12. Her first poems were jotted down in a Hannah Montana notebook. Tonight, she is thrilled to host what she hopes to be the first of many album release parties. This one includes food, conversation, and live performances. The party, which takes place in the Stewart Room from 7-8:30 p.m., represents years of work.
From Our Conversations was written, sung, and recorded by Watson, a music (production) and business administration major, and sings the story of a couple falling in love (I Caught Feelings, Stormy Love). However, the storyteller eventually decided she was better off on her own (Are You There Too?).
“Happy endings just don’t seem real for people in my age and stage of life,” said Watson, who then added, “It’s not based on a true story. I’ve never been in love; most of the songs were written based on conversations I’ve had with my friends. My favorite song on the album is called Stormy Love.”
Watson also sings for Celebration and Community Worship, and is part of a worship travel team. Multi-talented, she also plays guitar, piano, oboe, and ukulele.
From Our Conversations is available via itunes and spotify, and compact discs also are available for purchase at the release party tonight.
