Abby Reynolds ‘21, Sport Management and Business Administration
Abby Reynolds ‘21 has learned that a broad perspective can lead to new and unexpected opportunities. Before attending Malone she did not recognize the multitude of career pathways available to her, but now Reynolds is working toward her goal of planning and managing events.
“Before coming to college I believed that women could only become teachers or nurses,” she said. However, her mom encouraged her to branch out and consider business as a major and Malone as a potential university.
“I wasn’t sure if Malone was for me until I visited,” she said. “Thankfully, being able to join the swim team, as well as the small size of the school, drew me toward Malone.”
After her campus visit, Reynolds recognized that attending Malone would help her to not only obtain one major, but two. “I started out with sport management, but after completing my first semester of freshman year, I decided to double major and add business administration to help me pursue my passions,” she said.
Those passions led her to receive an internship with the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“My internship allowed me to help prepare and attend many events, including the Chicago Bears 100th Season Celebration,” she said. “I have learned that there is a lot that goes into planning and executing events, as well as the importance of familiarizing yourself with the sport management business.”
A highlight of her internship was attending the NFL draft. “In April of 2019, I went to the draft the week before finals. Once I told them about the invitation, my professors encouraged me to go and seize the opportunity,” she said. “The faculty here are wonderful and truly encourage you to step outside your comfort zone.”
With her newfound goals, Reynolds is heading in the direction of her dreams.
“My internship has given me exciting professional experience,” she said. “I never realized what my calling was until I started my major and work with the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I now know that I want to work in event planning and marketing in the sports industry.”
