Alexander Chilupe '20, Business Administration
From stage to screen, Alexander Chilupe ‘20 is focused on honing his business skills in hopes of impacting the film industry. With a major in business administration and a double minor in marketing and communication, he is working towards his goal of managing his own business.
“I want to work in the film and animation business because storytelling is one of my passions,” he said.
Chilupe is the current president of Enactus, Malone’s entrepreneurship student organization. His involvement has allowed him to develop practical skills that will translate into the professional workplace.
“Enactus has taught me how to present myself as a business professional,” he said. “It has increased my leadership development and organizational skills through hands-on experience.”
As the public relations manager for the Aviso, Malone’s campus newspaper, Chilupe has gained additional experience. He also hones his creativity through acting and directing his own films for the Open Frame Film Festival, Malone’s annual showcase of student cinematography. “To produce a film I go through a multi-step organizational process that goes from a mere idea to a fully-fledged story,” he said.
Mentorship by Michael Ophardt, professor of business ethics, impacted Chilupe’s education.
“Malone professors have influenced me considerably in my faith, especially in storytelling,” he said. “I have been inspired to write characters that struggle with aspects of faith because it gives the audience philosophical ideas to consider on a deeper level.”
Evaluating his audience and recognizing the importance of building meaningful relationships are goals Chilupe wants to pursue in the business world and in his career.
“My aim in business and storytelling is to relate to people,” he said. “I want to promote empathy and help others to strive towards peace and mutual understanding.”
