Andrea Garcia ‘21, Business Administration
While in high school Andrea Garcia ‘21 discovered a passion for business, so she knew that a major in business administration with a minor in communication would be a good fit for her. With a goal of managing a family-owned business in sight, Garcia is already impacting her community by demonstrating her faith in practical ways.
From the start, Garcia got involved with the student community at Malone.
“I loved orientation and our trip to Camp Gideon when I first arrived at Malone,” she said. “We had to gain trust with each other pretty quickly while working together to scale a 13-foot-wall. This year I could give back and help our new freshmen move in so they felt welcomed with the same great experience.”
Garcia sings with the One Voice Gospel Choir, serves as a mentor for multicultural students, and worked last summer at Camp NEOSA (Northeast Ohio Salvation Army). Her community involvement has allowed her to realize how important interpersonal relationships are to business management.
“My social experiences have enabled me to relate business skills to diverse workplaces,” she said. “The business field is very broad, so being able to adapt to different situations and environments is a key component to success.”
The integration of faith and learning at Malone has been a highlight of Garcia’s college experience. “Being disconnected from home was hard at first and I missed going to church with my mom,” she said. “However, the spiritual formation opportunities here have allowed me to connect with others in a Christian environment.”
Through intersecting her faith with the business field, Garcia wants to make an impact on those around her. “My main goal for going to college was to learn how to help my mom open up a business,” she said. “I want to use my communication skills to have real conversations, because building relationships is all about finding better ways to show love to people. Malone has shown me how to do just that!”
