Pollyanna Smith '21, Zoo & Wildlife Biology, Psychology
Pollyana Smith ‘21 has chosen to follow her calling and passion for zoo & wildlife biology, psychology, and biblical Greek. As a senior, Smith now has a clear vision of how to use these career paths to accomplish her goals, and Malone University has been her stepping stone towards a promising future.
Smith has always had a passion for animals and is fascinated with the biblical Greek language. She also hopes to use her psychology background and intertwine it with her faith so she can do her best to show the love of Christ to both God’s animal creation and God’s children.
With the help of Malone’s community, she tangibly knows how it feels to be shown the love of Christ from her fellow Pioneers.
“I love our campus community,” she said. "The students, the professors, the staff, the squirrels; everyone is polite, respectful, and welcoming. The community-style, living within my residence hall, WWF, reminds me that I am not alone because the women always have open doors, say 'hi' as we pass in the hallway, or grab dinner together once a week. Nobody is left out, which is great for shy introverts like I am.”
To further explore her interest in the Greek language, Smith attended the study abroad trip to Greece in 2018 with other Malone students.
“My trip from Greece was so life-changing, and I’ve learned so much about its beautiful history. I never wanted to leave,” she said.
Smith's next goal is to apply all that she was taught as a zoo & wildlife biology student to provide a healthier environment for animals and educate others about creation care. She believes that one of the best ways to accomplish this is by care for our environment because it provides safety for local wildlife. After graduation, she will directly put these goals to action as she travels to New Mexico for an internship at the Chiricahua Desert Museum, working in the national monument with rattlesnakes and tortoises.
