Rebekah Carr '21, Nursing
Rebekah Carr ‘21 has big plans for her future. By combining her passions and moving forward one step at a time, she is on track to reach her goal of one day working in the operating room.
In addition to studying nursing at Malone, Carr runs track and serves as a resident assistant on campus.
“I chose to attend Malone because of the friendly atmosphere in combination with the track and nursing program,” she said. “I have been able to develop new leadership skills through my involvement in campus activities because there are so many great leaders around for me to learn from. I have also learned how to foster positivity and encouragement with my peers through my role as a resident assistant.”
One of the highlights of her experience with the track team was her trip to Nationals during the indoor season of 2018. “I loved watching all the runners in a professional atmosphere,” she said. “I appreciate the collaborative team aspect of running.”
Carr’s experiences at Malone and the skills she has gained have prepared her to impact her future work environment.
“The nursing program at Malone encourages an atmosphere of collaboration, not competition, which I appreciate,” she said. “My clinicals have allowed me to experience first-hand what working in the nursing field is like so I can utilize my skills and receive real-life practice.”
By connecting her newfound skills with big dreams of working in the operating room, Carr is on her way to being the best nurse possible for her future patients.
“I have learned that being a patient advocate is important in the healthcare field,” she said. “We need to listen to what the patient is saying and be sensitive to their concerns as they make healthcare choices. Giving patients a voice in their treatment options is critical.”
